インタビュー・対談シリーズ『私の哲学』
Vol.41 Seisei Hanayama

Mr. Seisei Hanayama has reached a certain conclusion regarding the shape of the human body. In the 41st edition, we interviewed Mr. Hanayama, who aims to promote home remedies for physical ailments, about the phenomenon of asymmetry in the human body.

Vol.41 Seisei Hanayama

Artist
Born in Hokkaido in 1956, Seisei Hanayama graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Musashino Art University. A former part-time lecturer at Musashino Art University,
he managed a special arts production company for TV programs and commercials before becoming a practitioner in 1996. With an artist’s trained eye, he discovered the "asymmetry phenomenon" in the human body, which correlates with the location of ailments. Currently, he is dedicated to the global dissemination of "Morphotherapy," a method he developed to address the asymmetry phenomenon, through the establishment of the Morphotherapy Association.
His publications include "Why Do Abnormalities Appear on the Left Side of the Body?" (published by Kosai-do Publishing).

Muscle Contraction on the Left Side

When observing the human body from an artistic perspective, similar to drawing a sketch, one can notice differences between the left and right sides of the face and body. Moreover, these differences follow a certain pattern. For instance, in the face, the left eye is smaller compared to the right eye, the left corner of the mouth is raised, and the left nostril is rounder. Although muscle contractions predominantly occur on the left side, there are exceptions where contractions appear on the right side. However, after observing tens of thousands of individuals, I have found that muscle contractions below the shoulders always occur on the left side. This includes the left shoulder blade rising, the muscles on the left side of the back becoming more prominent, the left buttock lowering, and the waistline becoming indented on the right side while remaining straight on the left. This consistent pattern of facial asymmetry, with occasional exceptions, and the unwavering occurrence of left-side contractions below the shoulders is a significant discovery.

The most beautiful form of the human body is considered to be symmetrical. Ancient Greek and Egyptian sculptures are all symmetrical, symbolizing divine perfection and ultimate beauty, which became the archetype of beauty. This idea persisted through the Renaissance, and most people still believe that the human body is symmetrical. However, this is not the case. In contemporary medicine, it is only acknowledged that the left testicle hangs lower, without recognizing any consistent patterns of asymmetry in the human body.

Development of Morphotherapy

The presence of asymmetry in the body indicates either a current abnormality or a potential future risk. Since asymmetry can appear suddenly, it might be considered a type of warning signal from the body. Additionally, if a disease is associated with asymmetry in the body’s shape, then eliminating that asymmetry might also eliminate the disease. With this in mind, I developed a method to correct bodily asymmetry through manual techniques and named it “Morphotherapy.” The term is derived from “morphology” (the study of form) and “therapy,” signifying a soft treatment method based on morphology that allows anyone to maintain health at home with the help of family members.

This approach solved the issue of addressing diseases, but the question of why these phenomena predominantly occur on the left side remains. From my experience in practicing this technique, I have concluded that it is likely due to abnormalities in the autonomic nervous system, particularly the sympathetic nervous system. These abnormalities probably originate from issues in the central nervous system. However, why these issues manifest specifically on the left side or if there is a reason it must be the left side is still unknown. Further elucidation requires a scientific approach from specialists.

Miraculous Development Episode

Let me share a miraculous development episode. I use the term “miraculous” in the sense that it hasn’t been scientifically proven. I once applied Morphotherapy to a child with cerebral palsy. The parents simply wished for their child to be able to say “Papa” and “Mama.” However, the doctors had declared, “This child’s brain will not develop further, and they will never be able to walk.” Contrary to the doctors’ expectations, the child started to sing and use a computer. The brain continued to develop, and the only remaining milestone was for the child to walk. One day, the child got onto a walker without anyone’s help. This was around the age of five, having started Morphotherapy at age three. When watching a video of the child on the walker, you could see the legs making subtle kicking motions. This was the result of new neural pathways forming in the brain. There is still a lot of potential for such miraculous occurrences to happen.

I believe that resolving the asymmetry phenomenon holds great potential for the future of medicine. Although this has not been scientifically proven, I hope specialists will research what this phenomenon means and its relation to diseases.

Misalignment of Bones as a Cause of Headaches and Lower Back Pain

The human spine, or vertebrae, can become misaligned. The concept of bone misalignment is a part of alternative medicine. Generally, the term “distortion” is also used, but since distortion refers to the deformation of bones, I prefer the term “joint misalignment.” The misalignment mentioned here means that the bone shifts slightly from its original position, which is different from dislocation. In fact, this misalignment causes the asymmetry phenomenon. Although modern medicine does not recognize that such misalignment can cause symptoms, misaligned bones can compress surrounding nerves, leading to headaches, lower back pain, and knee pain.

Morphotherapy is a straightforward approach that physically restores misaligned bones to their original positions. By correcting the misalignment, the body can regain its natural function. I want people to first recognize the phenomenon of left-sided misalignment. My goal is to enable families to treat conditions thought to be caused by misalignment at home. When symptoms arise from bone misalignment, simply correcting the misalignment can resolve them. Without understanding this principle, it is impossible to address the underlying cause of these conditions.

The method for correcting bone misalignment has been standardized and is starting to spread as Morphotherapy. By practicing Morphotherapy at home, I believe that many conditions can be prevented. For example, people with migraines always have the second cervical vertebra misaligned to the left. The misalignment occurs when one side of the muscle contracts and pulls the bone, causing the misaligned bone to compress nerves and blood vessels, leading to headaches. The cause of muscle contraction is likely due to some chemical substance, but this is outside my expertise. I hope that the existence of this unique left-sided phenomenon will be widely recognized and researched medically and biologically.

This Was My Art

The primary purpose of art is the discovery of beauty. Although I intended to pursue art, I eventually discovered phenomena in the shape of the human body that were far removed from beauty. Since then, I felt it was my mission to develop a method to restore this beauty, and I have been striving toward that goal. This objective was achieved with the completion of Morphotherapy. Now, I believe that the restoration of the human body’s beauty, which should be symmetrical, is my original form of art.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to have this valuable dialogue. I understand that it might be challenging to have a conversation with an older person, especially when the topic is illness, which can be quite serious and difficult to discuss.
Nevertheless, from the first impression, Mr. Sugiyama, you came across as very refreshing. It’s not just because you’re young; you also lack the peculiar distortions often associated with youth. You are a type of person we didn’t have in my time. You possess decisiveness, the ability to take action, and a certain kind of perseverance, making you a very attractive individual. It’s no wonder that people around you naturally want to support you. Keep pursuing your dreams, involving others, and doing interesting things. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.

Artist Seisei Hanayama

A senior colleague who has taken great care of me for many years has been in poor health for a long time. After consulting with various people for improvement methods, he finally reached Dr. Seisei Hanayama. He learned about the abnormalities caused by bone misalignment and the importance of proper body maintenance and understanding the state of one’s body. While there may be treatments and improvement methods that are not yet medically understood, witnessing my senior’s improvement firsthand was a series of surprises.
Being aware of the saying “illness comes from the mind” and ensuring proper maintenance regularly might prevent accumulated damage in the future. This interview made me think about taking better care of my own body.
